Good luck everybody!

US presidential election day. We need a US president who will be bold enough to lead the world in a response to the threat of climate change. Wars and economic shenanigans will affect the billions of us living on the planet, but they are superficial floss in comparison to climate change. It is the only issue that counts.

So should it be McCain or Obama? I don't know - they've both made only a few encouraging noises. Which one believes in the issue most, and is the most likely to show the exceptional courage needed is a call I can't make. McCain has shown considerable courage in his political past, (but Palin??!?!?), Obama is young and idealistic and maybe more willing to really stick his neck out? Only history will tell, and I fear history will tell us that we were let down by the usual self interest.

Personally, I want the democrats to win and I want the US to have a non-white, non-anglo saxon president - for all kinds of reasons I'll not bore you with!

Interesting that you want the Democrats to win, despite your rant against democracy the other week. Not that the party name 'Democrat' really stands for democracy in politics.
I'm not sure the President of America can ever be truly democratic anyway, guided as they are by capitalist donations.
Meanwhile, back to last weeks rant, cos I found it very thought provoking and don't yet have the knowledge to join in. What's a viable alternative to democracy in Western Society? What kind political system change would we have to vote for democratically to loose democracy? Or what kind of leadership system & values should we seek when society breaks down?

hooray.

America has selected one Right Winger over a more extreme Right Winger.

As the elections are so heavily influenced by fundamentalist religion and Obama has a legal background, here's a wee bible quote:

For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

Romans 4:14.

We'll see how many of the promises are kept...

Cynic!

He's promised binding targets on carbon emissions and has something of a plan to get started. He appears to have the support of the US nation to help him get started.

I don't care what shape his wings are.
