Saturday Night

The Girl goes off for a sleep-over. Yeee Haaa - we can go to the pub.

It gets quite a build up these days - going to the pub. We shower, we plan the timing of the goat duties, we ensure that the evening meal will not be late, we change into clothing free from eau de caprine. All so we can get maximum time soaking up the jovial atmosphere of a Saturday night in the pub.

So under the most gloriously starry sky ever - we slid our way to the local relishing the prospect of an evenings entertainment.

But when we got there - all was dark. The pub was shut. On a Saturday night? Not only was it shut, but we could see from the tracks in the snow around the pub, that everyone else knew it was shut - we were the only thirsty souls who'd sought refuge within for some time.

So we slid our way home again and watched QI. Disappointed.

Why was the pub shut?

Ha ha! We have two 'locals' being nearly 4 miles away, which means we have to drive there, but hey ho. When we first moved here we went into one pub on a saturday night to find only 3 men (no women to be seen) propping up the bar exchanging the occasional monosyllable. After one drink we left. Neighbours told us that the pub we had chosen had a reputation for being a bit dour, and that most people went to the other one. so the next weekend we set off there. True enough, there were 5 men propping up the bar watching a TV screen, and 'mine host' was very jovial and welcomed us warmly and called a cheery goodbye as we left 10 minutes later. We did find a nice pub eventually, about 20 miles away, but its worth the extra drive.

Ah - thanks Lynda. Let's just say that Scottish pubs - especially rural Scottish pubs, are - ermmmm - an acquired taste!

Mike!

Sorry your original post was deleted - you'll know why if you think about it. Good to see you're on top form though.

And yes the pub was shut. According to the website it was shut for 4 days. So it'll be open again now - but the girl wont be on another sleep over for weeks and weeks.....
